A JPEG is segments: image data, and everything bolted on. The strip copies the image segments and drops the rest, byte for byte.

Your pixels, exactly
The image data is copied, not re-encoded, so there is zero quality loss and the strip takes milliseconds. The color profile stays by default so your tones render identically everywhere. One exception: a sideways original gets rotated upright once, because the strip removes the rotation tag.

Platforms are not your privacy plan
Instagram strips most metadata on upload, after it has read the file on its servers. Your portfolio, your email attachments and most website uploaders strip nothing. Clean the file before it leaves your machine and the question never comes up.

Does this remove the GPS location from a photo?
Yes. The GPS tags (latitude, longitude, altitude, direction and the GPS timestamp) are removed, and so is the rest of the EXIF, XMP and IPTC the file carried. The pixels are copied byte for byte.
Are my photos uploaded to remove the location?
No. The removal runs inside your browser; the files never leave your device and nothing persists after you close the tab. That is the point of doing it here rather than on a server.
Which photos carry location data?
Almost every photo taken on a phone with location services on, and any camera or app that geotags. Each card shows whether the file carried coordinates before it was cleaned, in red, with the place on a map.
Does removing GPS data reduce image quality?
No. The image data is never recompressed. The one exception is a photo stored sideways with a rotation tag, which is rotated upright once at maximum quality so it does not lie on its side after the tag is gone.
Does Instagram or WhatsApp remove location anyway?
Most large platforms strip location on upload, after reading the file on their servers. Email attachments, portfolio sites, marketplaces and many uploaders strip nothing. Cleaning the file before it leaves your device covers every destination at once.
Can I remove only the GPS and keep the camera info?
Not here. This tool removes the location and every other tag together, which is the safe default for anything going public. If you need camera and copyright kept for a client delivery, keep the originals for that and send cleaned copies elsewhere.
